What does a celebrity and the 1st lady have in common? Both Selena Gomez and Michelle Obama own cars but doesn’t drive them. Surprisingly, they have the same car brand, the Ford Escape Hybrid.

At least Selena Gomez has her man

Selena Gomez received the keys to her brand new black 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid for her 16th birthday on July 22nd. Excited that she has her own car, her path of becoming a licensed driver failed. She announced on Conan O’Brien on The Tonight Show that she flunked her California’s driver’s test at 17. She was unable to pass the written part of the driving test. “It’s hard! I’m from Texas, so of course it was easy – we had 10 questions there. Here, they give you 50 questions, and… I didn’t pass!”

On the other hand, Selena Gomez still tries to be a good role model for the teens out there by starring her and her mom in a State Farm commercial, promoting safe driving for the insurance company. She emphasizes the importance of being a safe driver by talking about keeping her seat belt on at all times, never texting or talking on the phone while driving, and never having too many friends in the car.

It’s alright darling. You still have your boyfriend, Justin Bieber, to drive you around in the Range Rover that he received from Usher as a gift. So, don’t worry about not passing your driver’s test.

Michelle Obama on the other hand…

Michelle Obama doesn’t necessarily “own” a car. She and Barack Obama own a family car, the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. (Just one year older than Selena Gomez). Compared to McCain’s family, who currently has 13 cars, the Obama family has one.

I guess this doesn’t really matter because being an American 1st lady, she gets to travel almost anywhere. In their own private jets, she and her husband has traveled to nine countries. After being elected President, the family drives the Presidential State Car, a Cadillac-badged limousine.  As 1st lady, a car doesn’t really matter, does it?

Battle of the Cars: Obama vs. Bieber

By admin. Posted in Nascar | 4 Comments »

If you were planning on going to Midtown Manhattan this Thursday, think again: President Obama and teenage heartthrob Justin Bieber are both going to be there, and are sure to cause a traffic-stopping disaster in their midst. Other than their widespread fame and and impending presence in NYC, these two figures have absolutely nothing in common…including their cars.

Obama's choice, the Ford Escape HybridSince becoming President, Obama’s ride is the presidential limo, “Cadillac One,” that he doesn’t drive himself, and is covered in protective bulletproof glass and ceramic armor. However, prior to his presidency, Obama drove a modest Ford Escape Hybrid. This car is not only environmentally-friendly (going green is all the rage right now), but also gets a tax return from the government, so it saves you money too. Oh, and it’s made in America. Seriously Obama, do a better job on being the embodiment of the energy-conserving, fiscally-responsible American citizen.

Justin Bieber, on the other hand, chose to go a more flashy route with his car choices. His mentor, Usher, gifted him a beautiful new Range Rover on his 16th birthday last year. Also, while this has yet to actually happen, singer/songwriter P. Diddy promised to give Bieber his spanking white Lamborghini. Really?! My first car was a 1996 Toyota Corolla, passed down to me from my sister, who, let me tell you, had obtained more than a couple bumps and scrapes on it. I’m sorry Biebs, but if the best you have to offer to the world is that god-awful song, “Baby” (which is also the 2nd most disliked video on YouTube), then even I deserve a sparkly new Range Rover and possible Lamborghini more than you.
